24 dining room décor & makeshift wine hutch.

i am seriously getting into decorating my house. it’s not that big (which makes it easier), but i've lived here for going on 4 years and never really decorated much. i've painted almost all the rooms that need it (except the office), but that’s about it.

last night i got this urge to do a little dining room makeover. i've been eyeing wine hutches for a while now (as you know), but all the ones i found either didn’t fit right or were WAY too expensive (or both). so, i decided to make my own. here’s last night’s adventure!

as you can see… i've obviously done nothing with this area. it actually took me about a year and a half to even buy a kitchen table. i did buy the new dark blinds a couple of years ago too. i LOVE them.

so, basically this is how it went down: i found a 3-shelf bookshelf that matched my dining room table over at target for $120. after i put that together (actually not too bad) i screwed in these stemware racks (2) that i found at bed, bath & beyond for $10 each to the top of the bookshelf. i also found a little accordion wine bottle holder at pier 1 for $20 (you’ll see it in the finished photos). so, all together i spent a grand total of $160 for the entire “wine hutch” and it’s the exact right size!

after

tada! oh, and here’re my new drapes… instead of the old white blinds that were so ugly…

i also ordered some canvas wine prints that will go on the wall by the window… how cute are these?

and that’s that. i am super stoked that i was able to create just what i was looking for in the hutch. i keep walking into the dining area and just standing there, proud of my new room. it makes my heart warm.

i'm going to love decorating… i can feel it.

xo.

Such a great idea! I've been looking at wine hutches and they are so expensive. I will have to be on the lookout for something like this that would work in my living/dining area.

I love the drapes! I have the same ones. They're going in our guest bedroom.

The wine rack turned out amazing! I wish I were so resourceful and crafty.

Wow! I'm totally impressed! So very resourceful and it looks fabulous :D (and, a little tip from a cabinet maker...without doors, the glasses will eventually start getting dusty, so unless you want to keep cleaning them, you might look into getting some glass doors fitted into the space. But, really; WELL DONE!) The rest of it looks amazing, too, of course <3

Ah-maze-ing-ness! That hutch was such a crafty little idea of yours! Sneaky, sneaky, and it came out so good! The whole room looks 100 times better (amazing what curtains and some accessories will do, huh?

Speaking of, I love those curtains! We have a sliding door in our dining room too, and it is in desperate need of curtains.

I have some canvas wine prints in my kitchen -- they are so perfect!
